【 摘 要 】
This paper extends the InequalityPossibility Frontier approach in two methodologicaldirections. It allows the social minimum to increase withthe average income of a society, and it derives all theInequality Possibility Frontier statistics for two otherinequality measures besides the Gini. Finally, it appliesthe framework to contemporary data, showing that theinequality extraction ratio can be used in the empiricalanalysis of post-1960 civil conflict around the world. Theduration of conflict and the casualty rate are positivelyassociated with the inequality extraction ratio, that is,with the extent to which elite pushes the actual inequalitycloser to its maximum level. Inequality, albeit slightlyreformulated, is thus shown to play a role in explainingcivil conflict.
