【 摘 要 】

The public-private partnership (PPP) forthe national water utility of Cote d'Ivoire is theoldest and largest water PPP in the developing world. Inplace since 1960 and today serving more than 7 millionpeople, this PPP has provided quality service for decadesand made remarkable progress in expanding access in the1990s. It even proved resilient to civil strife and the defacto partition of the country in 2002. This African successstory shows that a pragmatic partnership between a committedgovernment and an efficient private operator can producetangible and sustained benefits for the population.
