The World Bank interviewed arepresentative sample of the private sector in 5 of the mostactive economic regions in Kenya. The sample consisted of713 business establishments surveyed from January 2013through February 2014. The enterprise survey covers severaltopics of the business environment as well as performancemeasures for each firm. This report presents followinghighlights from the survey: firms in Kenya exhibit lowemployment growth; more firms export compared to six yearsago; and more days are needed compared to 2007 to clearcustoms for direct exports and import; firms in Kenya reportan improvement in the use of financial service; losses dueto crime have declined since 2007 but security expenses havebecome more burdensome; and one out of four firms in Kenyaprivate sector consider informal competition as the biggest obstacle.
