Pakistan is widely believed to beunderperforming as far as its agricultural export potentialis concerned.However, analyses to support this allegationare very few, in part due to the lack of easily accessibledata.In this paper provide the first necessary step in theanalysis of Pakistan's comparative advantage inagricultural export markets. However, little or no analysishas been done that sheds some more light on this issue, inthe sense of better specifying in which commodities andwhich markets Pakistan's comparative advantage isstrongest.This paper attempts to start filling that voidby quantifying the degree of comparative advantage ofPakistan agricultural export products in major overseasmarkets.This quantification is a necessary first step ingetting a better handle on the factors that may limit theextent to which Pakistan is able to enter markets where ithas a comparative advantage.Expansion of Pakistan'sshare in overseas export markets is crucial for furtherdevelopment of the country's agricultural sector. Themain objective of the paper is to identify products wherePakistan has demonstrated comparative advantage, and toprovide a first step towards understanding the factors thatat present limit possibilities for further exploiting thatadvantage.The paper analyzes actual export flows andcalculates measures of revealed comparative advantage.Thefocus in this paper being on agricultural trade, theanalysis is based on international trade data thatincorporates a unique degree of detail not seen before intrade analyses for Pakistan.
