The authors present an overview ofgender-based violence (GBV) in Latin America, with specialemphasis on good practice interventions to prevent GBV oroffer services to its survivors or perpetrators. Intimatepartner violence and sexual coercion are the most commonforms of GBV and these are the types of GBV that theyanalyzes. GBV has serious consequences for women'shealth and well-being, ranging from fatal outcomes, such ashomicide, suicide and AIDS-related deaths, to non-fataloutcomes, such as physical injuries, chronic pain syndrome,gastrointestinal disorders, complications during pregnancy,miscarriage, and low birth-weight of children.
