【 摘 要 】
This essay discusses practical issuesconfronted when conducting surveys as well as designingappropriate field trials. First, it looks at the challengeof ensuring transparency while maintaining confidentiality.Second, it explores the role of trust in light of asymmetricinformation held by the surveyor and by the respondents aswell as the latter's expectations as to what theirparticipation will set in motion. The authors present casestudies relevant to both of these issues. Finally, theydiscuss the role of ethical review from the perspective ofresearch conducted through the World Bank.
