【 摘 要 】
This paper examines whetherinfrastructure investment has contributed to EastAsia's economic growth using both a growth accountingframework and cross-country regressions. For most of thevariables used, both the growth accounting exercise andcross-country regressions fail to find a significant linkbetween infrastructure, productivity and growth. Theseconclusions contrast strongly with previous studies findingpositive and significant effect for all infrastructurevariables in the context of a production function study. This leads us to conclude that results from studies usingmacro-level data should be considered with extreme caution. The Authors suggest that infrastructure investment may havehad the primary function of relieving constraints andbottlenecks as they arose, as opposed to directlyencouraging growth.
