This short country report, a result oflarger Information for Development Program(infoDev)-supported survey of Information and CommunicationTechnologies (ICT) in education in Africa, provides ageneral overview of current activities and issues related toICT use in education in the country. Egypt faces significantchallenges in harnessing its education system to promote itsdevelopment plans. The government has articulated a visionof an information society in which widespread access totechnology can nurture human capital, improve governmentservices, promote Egyptian culture, and support economicgrowth, and the ICT sector has been targeted as a vehiclefor this growth and social development. A national ICTpolicy has been adopted and is managed by the Ministry ofCommunication and Information Technology, of which educationis one priority. The Egyptian education initiative, launchedby the first lady, is a prominent result.
