【 摘 要 】

This short country report, a result oflarger Information for Development Program(infoDev)-supported survey of Information and CommunicationTechnologies (ICT) in education in Africa, provides ageneral overview of current activities and issues related toICT use in education in the country. The crisis of 1993 andthe long drawn-out conflict that followed in Burundi had adevastating effect on education and greatly exacerbated theunderlying problems that existed before. However, a newmomentum has been achieved and Burundi is now fully inrecovery. Critical to recovery is the education developmentplan that is expected to be finalized this year and thatwill spell out the government strategy for the educationsector. The national ICT for development policy that wasadopted recently is expected to focus the adoption and useof ICT by the country to achieve its strategic objectives.It is, however, important that an ICT for education policythat identifies the priority areas in which ICT can catalyzedevelopment and improve both access and quality of educationin the county be developed. This sector-specific policyshould take into account the overall education strategicgoals drawn up from the development plan.
