Soil fertility never used to be a majorconstraint due to the age-old practices of recyclingagricultural residues in several ways. However, in thesedays of inorganic fertilizers and quick returns, the problemof soil management and its related constraints aresurfacing. In this context, indigenous practices related tosoil and water conservation which can also be termedresource-conserving technologies need to be documented in asystematic way and also to be analyzed and introduced topotential new areas. Preparation of valuable manure fromgroundnut shells spread on the floor of the cattle shed isone such indigenous practice followed by farmers ofAnantapur district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.This age-old practice is still practiced by the farmers ofthis region.
