More and more nonprofit microfinanceinstitutions (NGO MFIs) are transforming into for profitcompanies, including regulated financial institutions.Transformations are typically driven by one or more of thefollowing factors: an MFI's need for capital, itsdesire to offer services that may be limited to regulatedfinancial institutions (such as savings), and newlegislation or regulation requiring or permitting transformation.
