Malaria is still a devastating diseasein sub Saharan Africa where it kills at least one millionpeople every year (United Nations Children's Fund, orUNICEF 2003). Children are most vulnerable to malariaattacks, which kill more than 3,000 children every day, largely in Africa. At least 100 Tanzanian children die dailybecause of the disease. Another high-risk group is pregnantwomen. However, all other adults are also exposed tosubstantial risk of malaria. In Tanzania, control and careof malaria puts a huge burden on financial and economiccosts both at micro and macro levels, thus translating intoenormous poverty implications. As such, malaria has apotential in slowing down the achievement of the millenniumdevelopment goals (MDGs) in countries where it is endemic asis the case in many parts of Tanzania.
