【 摘 要 】

This note reports on the findings of arecent study to assess social change in conflict areas ofNepal. It looks specifically at the impact on hierarchicalrelations based on gender, caste, and ethnicity. All partsof society have been affected by positive, and negativesocial changes. Most of the positive changes have not yetbecome imbedded in the fabric of social relations, but areenforced through coercion, and the threat of violence. Thechallenge for development actors will be to capitalize onthese positive changes, and effectively address problems ofexclusion and social inequality.
