【 摘 要 】
This report analyzes the equity effectsof public subsidization of private schools in Coted'Ivoire, updates previous analyses, and attempts toassess how efficiently public spending is targeted. Thesubsidy per student in private (and public) schoolsincreases at higher quintiles. Students from families in thehighest quintile receive more than twice the subsidyreceived by students from families in the lowest quintile, compared with four times more in the case of studentsattending public schools. However, the subsidy system isprogressive as there is a clear tendency for the share offamily education expenditure covered by subsidies to declineat higher quintiles. This element of progressivity isstronger in the case of private school attendance.
