【 摘 要 】
The paths of many migrants includemultiple destinations and transit routes, yet this patternis almost never reflected in empirical analyses. Forexample, 9 percent of recent immigrants to the United Statesarrived from a transit country as opposed to the countrywhere they were born. Among those arriving from manyhigh-income countries, the transit migration ratio exceeds30 percent. To explain these patterns, this paper constructsa dynamic model of global migration that allows transitmigration opportunities to impact the attractiveness oflocations. After estimating the structural parameters of themodel, the paper simulates various counterfactual scenariosto highlight the spillovers of transit migration paths.
