Sexual violence (SV) is recognized as asignificant problem in the Democratic Republic of the Congo(DRC). SV can contribute to high levels of mental healthsymptoms, impaired functioning, and experiences of socialstigmatization in female survivors, many of whom also faceextreme economic hardship and poverty. This report providesresults addressing the impact of a mental healthintervention, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), onspecific domains of social, physical, and economicfunctioning, and on the reduction of mental health problems,including depression, anxiety, and feelings of stigma andshame, associated with being an SV survivor.
