【 摘 要 】

The study estimates the tobacco priceelasticity of demand for the population of Moldova, and theprice elasticity for 10 income groups is obtained. Thisappears to be the first tobacco price elasticity estimationfor income groups in Moldova. The study undertakes anextended cost-benefit analysis to estimate thedistributional effect of a rise in tobacco taxes on incomedistribution. As inputs, it uses tobacco price elasticity,mortality attributed to tobacco, and the medical costs oftobacco-attributed diseases.
