【 摘 要 】
This paper examines the patterns andeconomic effects of foreign direct investment across theBelt and Road Initiative countries and assesses thepotential role of the initiative in shaping the patterns andeffects. Exploring cross-country bilateral transportationcost and foreign investment data, the analysis shows that,by reducing overall travel times and transportation costs, the proposed Belt and Road Initiative transportation networkcan pave the way for additional investments and increasedgrowth in gross domestic product. But the magnitude of theeffect varies significantly across source and destinationcountries. Aggregate foreign direct investment in Belt andRoad Initiative countries is predicted to increase by around5 percent, with regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa and EastAsia and Pacific seeing greater potential gains. Theincrease in foreign direct investment can exert a positiveeffect on GDP, trade, and employment growth, especially forlower-income countries.
