【 摘 要 】
This paper explores the hypothesis thatthe credibility of economic policy making in Argentina (orlack thereof) has impacted the volatility of economicperformance. To establish the link, a historical review ofeconomic policy making and economic outcomes over thequarter century is presented, informed by a survey of theliterature on credibility and the political economy ofreforms. A more fundamental question is why policy shiftsare so frequent, and this necessarily relates to thepolitical institutions underlying policy making. A recentliterature on citizen engagement and accountability, combined with international experience, is then used toconsider policy options that could help reestablishcredibility during the new administration.
