【 摘 要 】
This paper utilizes information from the2015 Nigeria National Water and Sanitation Survey toidentify the extent and timing of the failure of waterschemes in the country and the factors affecting it. Around46 percent of all the water schemes in Nigeria arenonfunctional, and approximately 30 percent are likely tofail in the first year. The results indicate that during thefirst year of operation, factors that can be controlled inthe design, implementation, and operational stagescontribute to the failure of 61 percent of the waterschemes. As water schemes age, their likelihood of failureis best predicted by factors that cannot be modified. Theinfluence of operational factors, such as repairs andmaintenance, decreases slightly over time.
