【 摘 要 】
This paper experimentally evaluates therelative importance of psychic costs of tetanus vaccinationcompared to monetary costs among women in rural Nigeria. Tomeasure psychic costs, vaccine take-up between twoconditions to receive cash incentives is compared: clinicattendance vs. vaccine take-up. Because the only differencebetween these two conditions is whether a woman was requiredto receive a vaccine upon arrival at the clinic, thedifference in clinic attendance between these two groupscaptures the psychic costs of vaccination. Contrary toconventional wisdom, no evidence for significant psychiccosts is found. Priming about disease severity increases theperceived severity of disease, but not vaccine take-up.Monetary costs strongly affect vaccination decisions.【 预 览 】
