【 摘 要 】
This paper examines the role ofindustrial and occupational segregation in explaining thegender wage gap and its evolution in Georgia between 2004and 2015. It first documents the declining trends observedin the gender wage gap in Georgia during this period, commenting on some of the possible underlying factorsdriving such trends. It then presents evidence thatemployment patterns by industry and occupations are highlyconcentrated in the country and measures the degree ofsegregation using the Duncan index. Next, it analyzes if andhow much industrial and occupational segregation havecontributed to the gender wage gap and its decline bydecomposing the gender wage gap into the within-category andbetween-category components. The results point to existinggender wage gaps within sectors, industries, and occupationsbeing the primary drivers of the wage gap in Georgia, andfind a smaller role of gender segregation per se in these categories.
