【 摘 要 】
This paper proposes a quantitative modelof firm dynamics with endogenous innovation to study growthacceleration episodes triggered by reforms. The authors findthat reforms removing barriers to firm entry lead topersistent growth in TFP and declining average firm size, asin the experience of successful post-communist transitions.Reforms that reverse resource misallocation result in moreprotracted paths of TFP and rising average firm size, as inthe experience of non-communist growth accelerations. Whencalibrating the reforms to data from Chile's andChina’s growth accelerations, the model can replicate themacro and firm-level features of these episodes.
