【 摘 要 】
This study uses novel household surveydata that are representative of Bangladesh's largecities, and of slum and nonslum areas within the cities, toinvestigate the effects of demographic and socioeconomicfactors on early child growth in 2013. The study alsodecomposes the difference in mean child growth between slumand nonslum areas in 2013, and the increase in mean childgrowth in slum and nonslum areas from 2006 to 2013.Mother's education attainment and household wealthlargely explain the cross-sectional difference andintertemporal change in child growth. Although positive insome cases, the effects of maternal and child healthservices, and potential health-protective householdamenities, differ by the type of health facility, householdamenity, and urban area. The results suggest that a focus onnutrition-sensitive programs for slum residents and theurban poor is appropriate.
