【 摘 要 】
Preferential trade agreements haveboomed in recent years and extended their reach well beyondtariff reduction, to cover policy areas such as investment, competition, and intellectual property rights. This paperuses new information on the content of preferential tradeagreements to examine the trade effects of deep agreementsand revisit the classic Vinerian question of trade creationand trade diversion. The results indicate that deepagreements lead to more trade creation and less tradediversion than shallow agreements. Furthermore, someprovisions of deep agreements have a public good aspect andincrease trade also with non-members.
