【 摘 要 】

This paper takes advantage of repeatedcross-section household surveys and a sharp discontinuitycreated by the introduction of an unconditional cashtransfer to elders. The paper evaluates the impact of thesecash transfers on the educational expenditures for childrenwithin a household. The analysis finds positive andsignificant effects of the program at the aggregate level. It also finds that the program has stronger effects inindigenous populations and among female and ruralpopulations. The results are robust with respect to a seriesof falsification tests, survey structures, modelspecifications, and estimation methods.
