【 摘 要 】
There is little rigorous quantitativedata about the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people in developing countries. Thismakes the development of policy to improve the welfare oflesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex peopledifficult, and it also makes it difficult to know whetherlesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex–focusedpolicies and programs are working. Filling this data gap isnecessary to understand the development outcomes forlesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people.Quantitative data practices exist that can be drawn on tofill the gap, including household surveys, experiments, andbig data analysis. Summarizing existing experience, thispaper provides guidance on how to study development outcomesfor lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersexpeople, by: paying attention to the different ways to definesexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sexcharacteristics; and collecting samples that allowconclusions to be drawn with the broader lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex community, as well asthe general population.
