【 摘 要 】
This paper exploits variations in thetiming of telecommunications reforms across Europe toanalyze the relationship between the rise of alternativework arrangements and the emergence of the Internet. Thepaper evaluates whether sectors that are technologicallymore dependent on information and communicationstechnologies experienced disproportionately larger changesin their employment outcomes after telecommunicationsreforms were introduced. The main results point to adisproportionate increase in total employment, part-timework, and home-based work among information andcommunications technologies–intensive sectors after theimplementation of telecommunications reforms. The analysisdoes not find a link between the incidence of temporaryemployment, self-employment, second job holding, andtelecommunications reforms. The main results are robust toseveral specifications.
