A number of countries recentlyexperienced protest organized by citizens that were inpursuit of accountability and openness from government. Itwas witnessed that social media played a highly importantrole in those events; among others, continuously providingupdated information, establishing human networks, formingopinions, mobilizing people, and taking concerted action. Ofcourse, social media is not the sole reason that made theevents happen. However, it can be at least said that thegeneral public were encouraged to move into the actions fortheir enhanced well-being. From a broader perspective, thoseoccurrences also showcase that information andcommunications technologies (ICT's) can help enhancesocial development among people. This short note seeks todevelop analysis on the role of social media in socialdevelopment, in the wake of the increasing diffusion ofmobile phone internet access.
