【 摘 要 】

What major insights have emerged fromdevelopment economics in the past decade, and how do theymatter for the World Bank? This challenging question wasrecently posed by World Bank Group President David Malpassto the staff of the Development Research Group. This paperassembles a set of 13 short, nontechnical briefing notesprepared in response to this request, summarizing aselection of major insights in development economics in thepast decade. The notes synthesize evidence from recentresearch on how policies should be designed, implemented,and evaluated, and provide illustrations of what works andwhat does not in selected policy areas.
