【 摘 要 】

This study examines whether foreigndirect investment inflows facilitate upgrading of exportquality in host countries. The analysis focuses on theRussian Federation and uses customs data merged withfirm-level information from Orbis. The results show apositive relationship between the quality of productsexported by domestic firms and the presence of foreignaffiliates in the upstream (input-supplying) industries.This relationship is present irrespective of exportdestination or foreign direct investment origin. The resultsare robust to using different proxies to measure product quality.
