【 摘 要 】
This paper analyzes changes inagricultural productivity gender gaps in Côte d'Ivoirebetween 2008 and 2016 using decomposition methods. Theanalysis finds that the unconditional gender gap betweenmale- and female-headed households has decreased by 14percent over the past decade. The conditional gender gap hasdecreased by 32 percent and becomes statisticallyinsignificant once accounting for whether households farmexport crops. This transition is driven by improvementsacross crop types, but it is particularly remarkable forexport crop productivity, likely due to increased adoptionof fertilizer and pesticide by female-headed households.Despite these substantial improvements, female-headedhouseholds in the bottom half of the distribution remaindisadvantaged. Moreover, over the past decade, female-headedhouseholds did not transition into commercial agricultureand have witnessed greater reductions in land area comparedwith their male counterparts. The results show that helpingthese female-headed households access agricultural labor, strengthen their land rights, and adopt export crops are thethree most promising policy options to reach gender parityin agriculture in Côte d'Ivoire.
