This report aims to increase awarenessof effective ways to reduce emissions in the transportsector by outlining the planning, implementation, andmanagement of electric buses (e-buses) in the fleet ofSantiago’s public transport system. The study considers thecontribution of e-buses to sustainable mobility and themethods used to measure associated reductions in emissions,in addition to the importance of these new technologies inraising public transport standards and complying withclimate change commitments. Currently, the public transportsystem in Santiago is going through a transition to greentechnology with the introduction of electric and diesel EuroVI buses, and toward a new bidding process that aims toseparate the operation of bus services and provision. Thischange brings new regulatory challenges, but alsoopportunities for the introduction of new technologies. Thisreport investigates some of the main challenges andopportunities Santiago and other cities face as they movetoward a cleaner fleet.
