For a landlocked country like Uganda,access to ports through its neighbors as well as adequatetransport infrastructure (road, rail, air, inland waterwaysto facilitate better access to the ports) are crucial sinceit is the conduit through which trade flows. Regionalintegration is indispensable in this context in order toexpand and to integrate markets, exploit economies of scale,and attract foreign direct investment. Recognizing theimportance of transport and logistics as a key sector insupporting Uganda’s economic development, this reportassesses the human resource needs of the transport andlogistics sector, including ‘green skills’. Green transportand logistics is a focus of the sector globally as it seeksto maximize resources, focus on efficiency and effectivenessto reduce carbon emissions and bring about financial savings.
