Despite the region’s vast potential foragriculture production and trade, the agriculture sector inCentral African economic and monetary community (CEMAC)remains largely underdeveloped. This study supports CEMACcountries in their efforts to diversify their economiesthrough increased agricultural trade. Findings focus on thecosts and constraints associated with large and small-scaleagriculture trade, including procedures faced at the borderand in nearby assembly markets. This analysis uses acorridor approach to understand current conditions atselected border crossings and in nearby assembly marketsthat are important to regional agriculture trade in CEMAC,following commodities through six points on the supplychain: farm, immediate market, collection market, urbanmarket, border market, and foreign market. The report iscentered on Cameroon, as currently CEMAC’s main agriculturalproducer and exporter. Despite a large potential across theCEMAC region, Cameroon is at the moment by far the largestproducer as well as the only significant exporter ofagricultural products. The report is organized aroundthirteen key messages that cover production, sourcing, andtrade. The final section lists recommendations and areas forpotential investment and policy reform that can help theregion implement its trade integration ambitions in theservice of food security, agricultural development, andeconomic diversification.
