As part of the Enhanced IntegratedFramework (EIF) program for Trade-Related Assistance toLeast Developed Countries (LCDs), which Myanmar joined inApril 2013, the Government of Myanmar has asked the WorldBank Group (WBG) to be the implementing agency for aDiagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS). The generalobjectives of a DTIS are: (i) to assist the government inmainstreaming trade and competitiveness in the country’soverall development strategy; (ii) to provide a diagnosticand analytical tool to prioritize and sequence key reformsin the area of trade and competitiveness; and (iii) toprovide a platform for development partners to coordinateaction and align trade related assistance with governmentpriorities. This DTIS has identified a number of domesticand external constraints facing Myanmar as it strives toleverage regional and global integration for inclusive,export-led growth. Based on this, the current reportprovides analytical input on the linkages between trade andpoverty, and highlights key steps to remove bottlenecks interms of trade policy and trade facilitation.
