The government of Myanmar is committedto creating new and better jobs, including for migrantworkers. In 2018, they introduced the Myanmar sustainabledevelopment plan (2018-2030), a national strategy to informpolicies and institutions that drive inclusive andtransformational economic growth. Goal 3 of that planfocuses on job creation and private sector-led growth, andit includes separate strategies for job creation in ruralareas, in industry and services, and in small and mediumenterprises (SMEs); another part of goal 3 addresses theneed to improve the enabling environment for investment.Protecting the rights and harnessing the benefits of work,including for migrant workers, is likewise addressed in thegovernment’s plan. The ministry of labor, immigration, andpopulation also released two national plans of action thathighlight the importance of migration for Myanmar and theneed to improve its management.
