To evaluate and reflect thesustainability of services in the region, an overall sectormaturity assessment was done taking into account four maindimensions: access to services, quality of services, efficiency of services, and financing of services. Each ofthese dimensions is measured through three simple andobjective indicators. For each indicator, best practicevalues are established by looking at the best performers inthe region, and countries closest to those best performersare deemed to have a more mature sector. A more completedescription of the methodology to assess the sector maturityis included in the annex of the state of the sector regionalreport from the Danube Water Program. The outcomes of thisassessment for the Austrian water sector are presented, which also shows average and best practices in the Danuberegion. The Austrian sector maturity score is 96, which issignificantly higher than the Danube average maturity of 64,and the highest score in the region. The assessment showsthat, on average, the country performs very well in terms ofaccess to piped water and flushes toilet, wastewatertreatment coverage, customer satisfaction, continuity ofservice, wastewater compliance, collection ratio, andnonrevenue water.
