This Systematic Country Diagnostic (SCD)explores how Uzbekistan can consolidate its recentachievements and accelerate progress on the twin goals oferadicating extreme poverty and promoting shared prosperity.The SCD is organized into five chapters. Chapter one framesthe issues of poverty reduction and shared prosperity, andsituates them in the context of Uzbekistan’s recentdevelopment. It reviews the status and drivers of progressin these areas, identifies analytical constraints, andhighlights areas for further study. Chapter two describesthe necessary conditions for sustaining rapid economicgrowth and robust quality job creation. It underscores theimportance of expanding private-sector participation andinvestment in key economic sectors. Chapter three considershow a well-functioning labor market and access to essentialpublic services can enhance the inclusiveness of growth.Chapter four analyzes threats to the sustainability ofUzbekistan’s recent gains over both the medium and the longterm. Chapter five concludes by examining the constraints togrowth and development revealed by the analysis, and itproposes a framework for prioritizing policy actionsdesigned to address them.
