The case for climate action has neverbeen stronger. Current weather extremes, including storms,floods and drought, affect millions of people across theworld. Climate change is putting water security at risk;threatening agricultural and other supply chains as well asmany coastal cities. The likelihood of severe pervasive andirreversible impacts will grow without action to limit andreverse the growth of GHG emissions globally. Last year’sIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reportmakes clear the overwhelming need to take action now onclimate change and that the costs of inaction will onlyrise. The challenge is to decarbonize our economies by 2100with action in the next decades being critical. The choicesmade by government, the private sector, and civil society aspart of the transition to a decarbonized economy willdetermine the extent of future climate impacts but alsoprovide an opportunity to unlock investment and build aninnovative, dynamic low-carbon economy.
