In this benchmarking report, acomprehensive benchmarking analysis of the participatingSub-Saharan African universities is conducted in terms ofthe key indicators identified and constructed for thepurpose of assessing institutional performance and health.While university benchmarking is a relatively new approachfor most Sub-Saharan African universities that areparticipating for the first time in this process, it hasbeen used as a diagnosis and planning tool by manyuniversities to understand and track their own performanceover time and against their local and global peers. ForSub-Saharan African universities, there is a need to takestock of outstanding achievements in the past, catch up withlocal peers in the near future, and set long-term targets onthe road to becoming a top-performing university in theworld. It is expected that this benchmarking analysis willserve as the basis for understanding the relativeperformance of Sub-Saharan African universities as well as acatalyst for these universities to take appropriate qualityimprovement measures and carry out effective strategicplanning. For this phase of the Partnership for Skills inApplied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET)Regional Benchmarking Initiative, 28 out of the 48Sub-Saharan African universities that signed up haveparticipated and attempted the benchmarking exercise todifferent extents.
