This economy profile presents the DoingBusiness indicators for Botswana. To allow usefulcomparison, it also provides data for other selectedeconomies (comparator economies) for each indicator. DoingBusiness 2017 is the 14th in a series of annual reportsinvestigating the regulations that enhance business activityand those that constrain it. Economies are ranked on theirease of doing business; for 2016 Botswana ranks 70. DoingBusiness sheds light on how easy or difficult it is for alocal entrepreneur to open and run a small to medium-sizebusiness when complying with relevant regulations. Itmeasures and tracks changes in regulations affecting 11areas in the life cycle of a business: starting a business,dealing with construction permits, getting electricity,registering property, getting credit, protecting minorityinvestors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcingcontracts, resolving insolvency, and labor marketregulation. Doing Business 2017 presents the data for thelabor market regulation indicators in an annex. The reportdoes not present rankings of economies on labor marketregulation indicators or include the topic in the aggregatedistance to frontier score or ranking on the ease of doingbusiness. The indicators are used to analyze economicoutcomes and identify what reforms have worked, where, andwhy. The data in this report are current as of June 1, 2016(except for the paying taxes indicators, which cover theperiod January-December 2015).
