This report presents the water andclimate adaptation plan (WATCAP) developed for the Savariver basin (SRB) as result of a study undertaken by theWorld Bank. The WATCAP is intended to help to bridge the gapbetween the climate change predictions for the SRB and thedecision makers in current and planned water managementinvestment projects that will be affected by changingclimate trends. The purpose of the report is to: (i) assiststakeholders and decision makers in assessing and planningfor the risks generated by climate change impacts on waterresources; (ii) provide a basis for future plans and studiesof adaptation to climate change impacts in the SRB; and(iii) stimulate cooperation and debate across the basintoward additional and more detailed studies on climatechange impacts at the regional and basin scale. The SRB isprojected to experience small increases in water use by thepublic water supply, industry, energy, and agricultural andirrigation sectors. However, it is widely expected that newhydropower plants (HPPs) will be constructed in the nearfuture, making energy (primarily through hydropower) themost important water use in the SRB.
