Discrimination against lesbian, gay,bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people iswidespread and LGBTI exclusion from economic markets, vitalservices and political spaces is entrenched. This is notjust a personal problem, it is a development challenge; notonly because discrimination is inherently unjust, but alsobecause "there are substantial costs—social, political,and economic—to not addressing the exclusion of entiregroups of people."Understanding the barriers LGBTIpeople face in accessing markets, services, and spaces isimportant for designing more inclusive policies and programs.
