This handbook is the product of aworkshop held in June 2014 with about 25 environmentalregulators from over 10 FCV-affected countries (BurkinaFaso, Central African Republic, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar,Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, andSudan) that was financed by the Korean Trust Fund (KTF) andorganized and hosted by the World Bank Group (WBG). Over thecourse of one week the participants went through a denseprogram consisting of presentations, discussions, participatory exercises, field trips and the preparation andpresentation of case studies from their own countries. Thematerials processed and harvested during the workshop wereextremely rich, and it seemed logical to capture them in aform that will be of continued practical use for theparticipants. This handbook is intended as a handy toolkitwith practical tips that is borne out of experiencesgarnered from years of working in FCS, including postconflict situations. The structure of this handbook wasconceived during extensive discussions towards the end ofthe workshop and seen as a ‘road map’ towards the bestchance for environmental regulators to make a difference in practice.
