Rural electrification programs can bemore effective in stimulating economic growth, socialdevelopment, and sustainable utility operations when theypromote productive uses of electricity, as shown by a decadeof experience in Peru. To obtain the desired benefits, ruralelectrification programs need to encourage and supportinstallation and reliable operation of electrical equipmentthat makes production more efficient and profitable.
