Population growth and economicdevelopment, aggravated by climate change, will increasepressure on energy and water resources. Integrated planningcan make the most of these two essential and scarceresources. Thirsty Energy, a World Bank initiative, helpscountries address these issues and ensure sustainabledevelopment of both resources. This note focuses on thewater needs of the power sector and particularly answers thefollowing questions: Why is this issue important? Do powerplants need all that much water? What about other types ofplants? What are the challenges? and, What are our options?
