The control systems of today’s smartpower-distribution grids have evolved significantly. Suchsystems improve system reliability by reducing the frequencyand duration of outages. They also optimize assetutilization and increase power quality. But the scale ofautomation and the ultimate configuration of the system needto be considered carefully with each client. The decision toproceed must be based on a sound economic evaluation; itcannot simply echo the mantra of automation.
