In Papua New Guinea the poorest quintileis most vulnerable to illness, yet has the lowestutilization rates of healthcare facilities. When looking atage groups the elderly ( 55) are the most vulnerable toillness and the least likely to seek treatment. The lack ofhealthcare workers and the distance to facilities are amongthe most dominant reasons cited for not utilizing heath carein the poorest quintile. The perceived quality of servicesis a barrier to health care utilization across allquintiles. Out-of-pocket (OOP) payments have minimalcatastrophic impact, yet have been found to still be abarrier to utilization - especially amongst the poorestquintile. The government should focus on and prioritizestrengthening the health services delivery to achieveuniversal health coverage.
