【 摘 要 】

Cervical cancer is an important diseasein Ukraine: Among all cancers in females, it ranks 5th forincidence and 6th for mortality. While first year mortalityshows some decline, progress in earlier detection has beenvery modest. This report presents key findings from ananalysis of the continuum of cervical cancer care inUkraine, where the World Bank implements a technicalassistance program to support reforms and governance in thehealth sector. The analysis determined the breakpoints inthe care cascade from screening to long-term monitoring ofcases, and identified opportunities for action. Thescreening gaps were 47 percent (Lviv Region) and 38 percent(Poltava Region). Due to Ukraine's cervical cancerscreening eligibility from 18 years of age, screening has alow yield, and this is further reduced by the shortscreening intervals with almost half of the women screeningat least once every year, leading to efficiency concerns.Among the diagnosed cervical cancer cases, treatmentcompletion and negative outcomes were not sufficientlydocumented. Understanding of diagnosis and treatment gapshelps pinpoint solutions ranging from simplifieddecision-making for cancer treatment, to improvedpharmaceutical supplies and access to diagnostic equipment. The analysis highlights the need for age- andrisk-appropriate screening invitations and recall systems toincrease the efficiency and effectiveness of the cervicalcancer program in Ukraine.
